FAMILY

God tells us that family is important.

1 Timothy 5:8 KJV
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

As we look at this verse we need to define a few key words.

provide:  to consider in advance; to look out for in advance.  Provide for; consider.
From a word that means: to exercise
     the mind, to think.

denied: to contradict; deny; refuse.

infidel: without faith; an unbeliever.

This verse in Timothy is telling us that we need to look out for our family.  We need to prepare them for what is to come.  Providing for them is thinking about them - considering what they are dealing with and what they will deal with.  Providing for our families is not merely a financial obligation.

When we do not consider and look out for our families, when we do not prepare them for what is to come, and when we do not think about them we are contradicting the Word of God.  We are refusing the power God gives us in His Word to take care of our families.  We are without faith regarding our families - this means we are without the Word regarding our families!  God speaks frequently regarding our families and He wants us to pay attention to what He is saying.

It is not the church's job to train your child Spiritually - it is your job as their parent!  Church will be the bonus.  Church is there to reinforce what you are teaching and demonstrating AT HOME!

The more we abide in the Word as parents, the more our children will desire the Word in their lives.  They do not need to HEAR that they need to abide in the Word; they need you to SHOW them that they need to abide in the Word.  When I picture my dad one of the first images my mind displays is him on the floor reading his Bible.  I always knew God's Word was a priority to him.  I pray that my son knows the same thing.  When he thinks of me I want him to picture me in my chair abiding in the Word.  Your children need the Word and they need you to show them that!  They are not going to see the Word as their desperate need when you ignore the Word on a daily basis.

We need to think about what is going on in OUR family.  What am I showing my family?  What kind of example am I?  Am I preparing my children for what is to come by teaching them the value of the Word in their lives?  Can I give them verses about what they are dealing with or what they may deal with?
These questions are not meant to make you feel guilty - they are meant to open your eyes.  If you are not happy with your answers to these questions then you need to find your answer in the Word.  Abiding in the Word will make you the parent God desires for you to be.  The Word of God is the answer to all of the problems in the family today!!

Show your children how important God's Word is to you.  It doesn't matter if they are 1 or 51...show them!  Start today!  Let them know where you struggle - they need to know you are human, too.  Let them know that you are relying on the Word for the help you need.

Look over the verses on the Promise Page regarding your children and share them with them!  Let them know what God has to say about them!  Read them a verse every night before they go to bed.  Remind them of who they are in Christ now - before they get older!!
